About Us
Welcome to the official website for FIU’s Green Initiative and the Presidents Climate Commitment Task Force. The Green Initiative is a collaboration of the Presidents Climate Commitment Task Force and the greater university community. By serving as a catalyst for sustainable policies, practices, research and curricula, the movement seeks to help establish a continuum from innovative ideas to practical implementation.
The Green Initiative and President’s Climate Commitment Task Force were created after FIU President Modesto A. Maidique signed the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment in May 2007. The commitment provides a framework and support for America’s colleges and universities to go climate neutral. (Going “climate neutral” essentially means the university will emit no greenhouse gases or will offset its emissions through energy credits and other methods.) FIU is one of more than 500 universities participating in this historic movement.
